PROJECT DETAILS
With their client’s well-being and comfort at the forefront and a greater need for communication between departments, the State Government decided to establish Communities’ Housing and Child Protection Karratha branches together in a new office, along with other government agencies that are already centrally located in The Quarter Building.
Pilbara Building Company successfully tendered on the new office fit out which consists of new modern meeting, contact and therapy rooms, large open workstation areas and a breakout space for employees to utilise during their break times. During the demolition and construction phase, PBC needed to be extremely aware of excess noise, not only were there tenancies operating above and below on this project but there was also a number of businesses operating on the same floor. To overcome the noisy works becoming an issue for other businesses, these works were programmed to be carried out in the early morning or on weekends when to other tenancies were not operating. Access was another issue that needed to be addressed, The Quarter is a multiple storey building, with limited access that didn’t interfere with public areas and subcontractors’ safety was also a concern with manual handling injuries being a major risk. PBC had to think outside the square on how materials, plant and equipment required for the build would be delivered to the first floor, it was determined an existing window at the rear of the building would be removed and a loading bay be constructed on the side of the building, that would allow for the use mechanical aids to lift all materials, plant and equipment into the building. This innovative thinking not only reduce the risk of injury but also reduced construction time on the programme. |
